Morterra is an online survival game set at the dawn of man. You awake with absolutely nothing and must find food, water, and protection from others. You will need tools to build a base to protect yourself, armors to defend against attacks, and weapons to fight back. You will eventually grow tired and need to sleep. However, while you sleep you are still vulnerable to attacks, so you must build adequate protection for yourself to survive the night.

The world contains no edges, no "safe-zones" (other than bases you build for yourself), and players can construct/destruct at their own will, but be conscious of whose stuff you destroy!

Controls Tutorial/Learning Curve
Tried your game out just now.

Here are some of my thoughts;
+I really wish there was a tutorial, last time I was this lost I think it was Terraria.
+It seems like the hatchet is very important to alot of what you do in the game, I would suggest giving one by default.
+ The claiming of territory, how does that work?
+ Your help page doesn't seem to have a scroll bar so I couldn't read the instructions (I'm using Fire Fox so maybe its my browser.
+ Maybe its my connection because the game lags on my end.
+ The low poly look is a wise choice for a browser game, it should keep latency low (I'm implementing similar visuals in my game).
+ The crafting of a fruit spear was easy enough but the tool feels useless, I tried to kill a chicken with it.
+ The game feels like a pototype because the only animals I encountered were chickens.
+ I don't quite understand all the percentages you placed on the left hand side of the screen (I get health but the sleep and meat percentage don't seem to mean much).
+ The server froze me out for some reason so I can't get back in.

Over all
I understand your concept from just looking at it but the game still feels like a prototype you're trying out.
Its a bit hard to actually get into and I wish that there was a little place I could run around and learn the basics quickly.
I wanted to build my own walls and claim land but I don't even know where to start, I can barely craft a work bench let alone build walls.
I wish the visuals conveyed more of whatyou were going for aswell, right now they're a bit too simple, try this Youtube video to see what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1oNuKChsdU

But you can take all this with a pinch of salt, I don't usually play survival games, so I can't say I know much.
Keep going at it and good luck to you.

Here's my game feel free to try it out.

Thank you! A tutorial has been our #1 feedback, so it is our main priority at the moment. You can find sharp rocks on the ground which can be used as a one-time hatchet/knife - a tutorial would help explain that better ;D. You can create a flag to claim land - also will be in the tutorial. The help page sucks and will be replaced once we finish the tutorial. Spears aren't useless, when more players are on they are very useful for defending yourself. There are cows, pigs, and horses as well, but they usually try to stay away from humans. The percentages are your survival levels: hunger, thirst, fatigue, health, etc. You need to maintain them to survive :)

Thanks for the feedback. I feel once we add the tutorial it will fix a lot of your concerns and you can have another look :D

Game Graphics Controls
Hi, I tried your game. It looks as an interesting concept. However, the walking is too slow, the accuracy with the mouse as well for picking up objects. It is not clear from the beginning what to do. The animals are super fast. Trees and other objects disappear once you look around (perhaps your camera frustum is too short). Would be good to put some ambient sounds.

Thanks! We are working on a tutorial and will add more ambient sounds ASAP! Also, animals are meant to be fast - a trap or a bow are a couple of solutions :D. Also, any chance you could replicate the bug with the trees? We haven't encountered or heard of it yet...

Hey,
Looks like a great game. Like the stylistics. However, I was unable to play the game fully as it was lagging too much. The laptop I'm using shouldn't be a problem, wonder why it lagged so much.

Hmm. Are you using Chrome? And do you have hardware acceleration enabled? Those can be the biggest performance throttles.

Game Graphics Tutorial/Learning Curve
Hi! I really liked the concept. I love online games i know how difficult it can be to make one, so i totally respect this game. By the way i have to say that it was difficult for me to learn the basics of crafting (i guess). I couldnt find out how to craft a thing or i didnt find the objects that i needed to do so. The game was fun anyways (i chated with another player about cats and dogs haha) and the esthethic was cool, but as someone already said in the comments, the game looks like its a prototype, not as a finished one. Keep working on it because its great :).

Thanks for trying out the game! We do have a tutorial if you press 'ESC' and click on 'Tutorial' at the top. It also pops up automatically the first time you log in, although it seems most people just ignore it. We have since made it much more aggressive of a popup, to better catch your attention. Thank you for this feedback, and let me know if you try it out again, what you think!

Game Graphics Mechanics
I tried to play it but failed. It seems there are some bugs in it. When I tried to equip a druit spear, I left-clicked, but nothing happened. I could equip a fruit stick the same way though. But then I could not strip it with rigth click. Or maybe the advices in the box in the lower right corner are outdated?
Also when I tried to get a trunk from a smaller apple tree, it did not work using a sharp stone. But it worked on another small apple tree using the same sharp stone.
Ofc it is also possible that the server is severly lagging - but I only noticed 2 other users (or bots?) logging in an quitting again. So there was almost no traffic at the server.
Once these basic problems are removed, I am pretty sure it will be a fun-to-play survival game.

Thank you so much for trying it out and giving us your feedback!
There is a tutorial when you log in and there are some videos on YouTube to help guide new players through the controls, but they are often overlooked, so we are working on new ways to teach new players the mechanics!
To equip a weapon, you just have to select it in your toolbar. You can select it either by scrolling to it, or pressing a number key to select the toolbar slot.
You can't chop a tree trunk, it will either slowly decay, or you can light it on fire with some flint.
The server isn't laggy typically. I don't imagine that was the issue. There are a steady stream of players on/off throughout the day, a lot of which do log in for a short time and log off, because it is a browser game, people are quick to check games out quickly and then bounce around. We are hoping to improve retention, but that will come over time with other improvements to the game.
Again, thank you for your feedback, I hope some time in the near future you check us out again and see if we've improved!

Hey! Thank you so much for checking out the game and leaving your feedback! It means a ton!
In regards to your points:
- We do have a tutorial, it pops up as soon as you log in. You can also re-visit it in the inventory screen at the very top!
- The hatchet is very important! However, it is very easy to find a sharp rock by searching a rubble. The sharp rock acts as a hatchet for a 1-time use!
- You can claim a territory by placing a flag on the ground - make sure you lock it though, if other players gain access to your flag they can do whatever they want to your base!
- Yes, we are having major issues with Firefox. For some reason they choose to use different programming syntax against other browser standards, so a lot of features are slightly buggy. We are working on this, and apologize greatly for the inconvenience. Hopefully you will try out the game on Chrome for now, and see if that helps!
- Our servers aren't laggy with our current userbase, but it could also be location and internet speed issues. Our servers are in Virginia USA.
- Thank you, we are very proud of our low-poly look, and hope that is will allow us to be a playable game on all devices!
- Spears are meant to be an inexpensive weapon for beginners to protect themselves. You could use them to hunt, but you would also have to be able to catch/trap the chicken first! You can craft other tools on the workbench or anvil.
- The game is currently in alpha, but there are other animals - pigs, cows, and even horses that you can ride!
- The percentages are your overall stats - hunger, thirst, fatigue, etc. You need to maintain these in order to survive!
- That's unfortunate to hear! We haven't had many server issues, hopefully you can give me more information about the behavior you experienced?

Again, thank you so much for checking out Morterra!

Mechanics Tutorial/Learning Curve
I got a lot of lag, that might have been on my end but it was so consistent that I think it might have been the game itself. It's a fun concept piece, but two critiques I would give are that:

1. A lot of the things you can craft seem to just be different coloured versions of previous items, having the same functionality. I understand wanting to craft better and more durable versions of the same items, but when so many of the things you can craft are functionally identical, it can make the game feel thin.

2. So far, there really isn't a single aspect of the game to separate it from other survival games. I would focus on trying to find at least one unique thing your game does that the others don't because unfortunately there are already so many games in this genre that even a really well-crafted survival game might not get a lot of love if it doesn't have something to set it apart. Is the focus on Pvp? Or is this trying to aim to be more of a player-driven world that evolves according to the way players choose to interact? From what I've played so far I'm not really sure.

Love the concept. I think need to improve the graphics. Specifically the colors and lighting. Overall the game is very good.
