The InBetween

by

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"   The InBetween is an episodic 2d action-adventure platformer where players take on the role of a young boy named Pipit, who finds himself on a quest to save the world of Aija from deadly Vir or… END IT.

I split this demo into two versions; One is a story mode which guides the player through an incomplete prologue of the game's story. And the action mode that delivers non-stop solid gameplay with as little to no bugs as possible. Both can be cleared in about 30 minutes tops(hopefully).
The action mode also has a miniboss as well as a semi-complete boos fight phase.

A more improved UI, fully animated enemies and npcs(no more red blocks) a finished boss fight, and a more detailed world for the player to explore in the more complete demo.
Afterwards, I would then be hard at work for a complete build of the entire game.

Game Graphics Mechanics
The game has a decent graphics, not minding some red square placeholders.

Controls are fine, but the main character feels a bit floaty.

There are a number of bugs though (action mode):

1. I got stuck in a red square and couldn't get out.
2. When I reached zero hearts nothing happened. The character just can't move, I can't exit. Had to reaload the game completely.

Other potential improvements:
1. Frame-freeze on being hit is waaaay to long. Feels like eternity before game returns control to you after you get hit.
2. Flying enemies can get into walls and shoot you from inside. There is no way for you to kill them while they're in.
3. Bashing enemy can fall off the cliff and it falls very very slowly. Gravity of this enemy is pretty off.
4. Black platforms on a dark red background are barely visible.
5. UI flashes "default" state every time you switch rooms.

Hello, Thank you so much for the feedback.
During that encounter with the red block, I forgot to add a tutorial there. Players are supposed to parry the enemy's bullet the "S" key to initiate pixl mode.
As for the flying enemies, I'll fix that soon. I can't believe I didn't notice that.
The bashing enemy though, I'll improve it's movement and gravity too.
Then the black platforms are also placeholders, I'll make sure to replace them.(Thanks for the reminder!)
Then the UI flashing the default state.... hmm..... I'll try to work on that too.
As for the player's floaty jumps..... I'll make it more grounded as well in the next update.

Once again, thanks for giving the action mode a trial and for offering your feedback, I appreciate it.
In the meantime, the game's story mode, how was it?

Game Graphics Level Design
The Graphics Are really good!
I didn't like how the camera quickly snaps forward sometimes. I stopped playing when I got pretty far and then had to go all the way back to the start when I died. It also seemed too hard for a first section( the first door you come across)
A few checkpoints, smooth camera, and lower difficulty and I would have played a lot longer. Looks great apart from those things to me.
