Spike Run
by future-games
A simple infinite runner. Press any key to jump. Dodge spikes! Collect coins and extra lives! Level up! Get high scores!
This game is in beta. Roast My Game downloads are disabled (you can Play with other web on itchio), and there are many bugs.

Story/Writing/Dialogue MechanicsHey there. It's a good first step for the prototype. If you wish to imporve it the following aspects can be addressed:
Visual:
- improved "skinning" for the character and the environment. There are many cute asset packs around to get you started.
- animations on the character and preferably on the surrounding objects.
- some "juicing" will help - like dust clouds on landing, visual special effect on a coin grab, death etc.
Game Mechanics:
- progression could be faster. It's quite boring to wait while a coin is approaching me each time for a whole screen length.
- the jump height could be regulated by the time you hold a button. This way it would be much easier to grab tricky coins. Currently controls feel very rigid.

Controls Level DesignGame idea is cool, but i think you should work on collision with spikes. I didnt touch spike, but it sait it is gameover

ControlsIt's a nice simple game. I like the fact that you control it with just a button.
Some issues:
1) The collision system needs improvements, but I see that you will work on it :)
2) If I lose, the number of coins is not resenting. I don't know if that's your intention or if it's a bug.
3) The score right now is the time. I would suggest to change it in the number of collected coins :)

Thank you! I will try to work on bugs, but soon, with score multipliers that you get by completing objectives, I don’t think score being coins would work. :)!digitalwater 3 years ago

I am still wondering what the yellow block is coming out of the right side of the screen. Further play is needed.
I personally don't like getting browser popups, id rather see it all in-game.

Controls Level DesignSimple game but I spent few minutes on it jumping :)) Clearly is catchy. I would make levels more "appealing" so you don't get bored of same repetitive run.

Im missing some varation in the level. Also it is getting a little bit to slow harder. Maybe also the player animation looks like sliding not like running.

Game Graphics ControlsThe game is simple and fun. But the only problem I feel is the "speed of the runner". While jumping also there is a delay.

Level Design PhysicsNot bad for a prototype! Your game can be improved in the following ways:
- Ramping: the difficulty seems to stay constant for the entire game
- Jumps: Jumps seems too floaty and you can clip into the ground
- Animations: The player seems to be shaking his leg?
- Death: Don't use an alert
- Bugs: Spamming keys causes player to return to ground quicker than normal
