Red Abyss

by

I have removed this game and its download links from this site because I'm not sure if it still qualifies as something permissable on roastmygame.com (due to violence, profanity, and the usage of copyrighted music).

If you want, you can still find it on GameJolt with the name "Red Abyss", created under the same username, Seamus_M.

Controls UI Graphics
As UI purist I have to say that you need to work on that. Played on 1920x1080 and there is problem with your GameOver sprite after level reload. Also, I had to press buttons a few times before it worked.

The player controller also needs to be improved, I had a poor experience with that. Keep working!

What specific issues are there with the player controller? Thanks for the feedback.

(Found out that instructions for sprinting with SHIFT were missing from the tutorial. Kind of a major issue. I'll update it today)

Controls Level Design
Awesome demo! Controls were simple and responsive when I played with keyboard and mouse. Shift sprint works fine (though I don't know why anyone would want to sprint in the dark . . . with monsters). Loved the moving shadow effects! Adds a lot of atmosphere to the game.
Also glad to see that there is infinite ammo (provided one reloads).
Not sure if I found the boss, but I killed all the enemies and eventually got to a point where I couldn't find any other exits. Left me wanting more. Good job!

Thanks! You must have missed the boss, considering that it's fairly evident when you reach him. That probably means that I need to make it clearer where the doors to new sections in the game are located.

Animation Level Design
This is actually a really cool concept. I actually had fun playing this. I didn't play too much because the game definitely makes it hard to see what's going on. I get that there's monsters in the dark and it's horror, but I can't kill the monsters if I can't really see them.

There needs to be more polish as well. For example, the text in the tutorial stage is hard to read when it goes under the game objects. I'd recommend either putting it in the UI, or off to the side of the wall where the player or tables and chairs aren't going to be covering it up. Also, I understand that you need to "interact" with computers to open doors, but the computer is a rigid body so it and the table it's on go bouncing across the room. They should be immovable.

The monsters being really hard to see took the fun out of the game play.

Overall I played like to the first door, but I love the idea and I would love to see more progress on this.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. The tutorial instructions are more of a placeholder, but I see what you mean with the computers and the inability to properly see the monsters.

Mechanics Game Graphics
Great demo really fun to play and with a challenging difficulty. I especially loved your work on the audio. It makes for a nice atmosphere.

Now I think you could improve the graphics a bit especially in term of colors . Also I found the mix of 3D models and pixel art a bit disturbing at first but it makes for an interesting artsyle. Other than that maybe make the molotov more rewarding in terms of visuals and sound effect.

Overall it's a great idea keep it up!

Thanks for playing! And yeah, making the molotov monster-hit sound effects was something I was putting off because I set things up in a particular way, but it still won't be that difficult so I'll put it in there at some point. I'll take any sort of compliment towards my "art" considering I'm a programmer not an artist XD
