Dystopicon

by

In Dystopicon the players will live in a dystopian society in which they receive money to watch TV. With that money they pay services to cover their basic needs. Throughout the game they will discover the details of this dystopia in which the government monitors your movements but gives you freedom of choice.   The story will be told through gameplay, texts and comics.   In this demo you can try the basic mechanics and the main context of the story: The Trinity,  riots, the Automatic Euthanasia Machine, the job lottery and the TV mechanic.   The game will be expanded as we finish the different development milestones.   Thank you for playing Dystopicon!   Justice and work!

Story/Writing/Dialogue Story/Writing/Dialogue
A funny concept. I wasn't totally sure what to check off as the thing that needs most work. Each play through, I was basically just stuck in a room, hoping to get a letter from the government allowing me to leave the room.
I survived the demo, and the game ended.
After a number of plays, with the same results, I became bored and stopped playing.
Seems like it could really be good, but I didn't have that experience.
I liked the mood, art, and atmosphere. Unfortunately, I just didn't seem to progress enough to keep my interest, which admittedly, is low.
This is sort of like Myst, if the wizards forced you to hang out in one room, with puzzles that don't seem to go much of anywhere.
Maybe I just missed out, though. Worth checking out.
Perhaps you'll have better luck than I.

You're right: the game becomes boring when you get the mechanics. I'm working in add more stuff to make players keep the interest.
Thank you very much. I'm happy to know that you found fun the concept and you liked the mood, etc. Your feedback will be very useful to improve the game :)

Story/Writing/Dialogue UI Graphics
Hello devs,

I like dystopian game worlds and I like your idea. The writing is very funny.
The sound is right on spot, good job on that.
The graphics are 6/10, but a game like this really relies more on generating the atmosphere and the feel, rather than good quality graphics.
So the current narrative, sound and graphics are decent.

While the learning curve is fine - I did not need any tutorial to understand the mechanics in the first run - the progression sucks balls. First run was... meh... second run was going agonizingly slow. (maybe add a feature to allow the player to change the game speed - normal/fast/faster since there aren't many things to do while farming dollars at the TV)

Regarding the UI, I can't say anything because there's no UI. Those are only debug messages :)

PS:
If you spam the lottery you get infinite money. Probability of winning is too big.
The package you receive and has no follow up doesn't look like a package.
Are there any downsides for watching different channels? The debug messages you use as an UI don't mention any :P

Keep getting feedback as you improve the game since the mechanics so far are pretty simple and they get repetitive and ultimately, boring.
Cheers!

You're right, the game has some problems when you get the mechanic. It is repetitive and boring and players need something to do to keep the interest. I'm working on that.

Yes, there's downsides for watching different channels but it's unclear for players. I'll improve that too.

Thank you very much for your feedback, your suggestions are very useful. You definitely hit the point.

PS: the package starts a parallel narrative but it's not included in the demo

Yes, that's true. First time narrative can be interesting for players but after that, the game is repetitive and boring. Players need something to do to keep the interest. I'm working on that.

And you are right: there's downsides for watching different channels but it's not very clear for players. I need to improve this.
