Cranberry Woodlands

by

Cranberry Woodlands is survival game which drops you into a dangerous, randomly generated forestland! Your aim is to escape the woodlands by finding and opening the locked gates which lead out of the woods. The road isn't easy, though! The grounds are inhabited by bloodthirsty beasts and beings.

here's a quick summary of the features:

  • Randomly generated environments for great replay value

  • Enemies of varying types

  • A single-player mode as well as a splitscreen two-player mode

  • Some helpful items! :)

This is bascally a small project we created in about 4 months with a very small team (or, somewhat more like a duo I guess haha). We're totally first-timers with projects like this, so if you have any tips, comments, critisisms or even roasts, let us know!! We'd love to improve our craft. :)

Game Graphics Level Design
In this game, and as I've noticed in my own games, randomly generated mazes need to be done just right or you literally can't play the game. I spent ~5 minutes going back and forth between different maps because I had ~3 steps(exaggerated) of movement space, and half the time there was a monster.
It was interesting early on, but only after I realized you could actually teleport between map areas. That wasn't readily apparent, and neither was how the little collectibles worked. I still barely have a grasp on one of them.
It looks and sounds amazing, but because of the entirely random map(use an algorithm to make sure that the paths are long enough to matter) and the fact that I didn't know the mechanics, it got boring too fast.
Also, the enemies are sad. The only reason they're threatening is because I get stuck on the random stuff in the path, and they're all the same. :(

It needs a couple tweaks. However, if you could fix those rather glaring problems, I could see this being an incredibly fun game, and at least being somewhat successful as a sort of 1-time through game to spend 15 minutes on.
With some more tweaks(I didn't test 2 player) it could be interesting as a competitive vs. game to play with friends, and that's where you'd get a lot of replay value.

2.7/5, could easily be 3.5 or 4 with some changes. Good luck and thanks for the game! :)
